Janet Marshall Dance Studios

Janet Marshall, the principal, is a Fellow and Major Examiner of the Imperial Society (ISTD). Our staff have been carefully selected from the professional theatre and teacher training colleges to bring a wealth of different talents together under one roof.

The Dance Studios have been established for more than 25 years in Cheltenham and the surrounding areas. We offer a large range of classes for the very young up to and including student level all in a caring and safe environment.

In our main Cheltenham purpose built studio complex we have a parent reception area, a changing area for juniors and a senior girls common room. In all the different studios there are wall mirrors and dance barres. The studio floors are all sprung with a variety of different toppings being either Harlequin or Maple.

Many of our costumes for the various festivals and shows that we produce are made on site. We therefore have a ‘Wardrobe’ work area and storage facilities for hundreds of costumes. Our Studio

All of the teachers are passionate about what they do and this is reflected in their teaching with all the pupils being encouraged to achieve their own potential.

Children are accepted from the age of 2 ½ in the Main Cheltenham Studio and from 3 years in the branch schools.

Registration is required before a child may be accepted into the school and the terms and conditions of entry are listed on that form. Permission to enter the school lies solely with the Principal or Managing Partner and the right is reserved not to give reasons for refusing any such permission.

Uniform – The school has its own dance wear shop known as ‘The Clobber Shop’ which has a wide range of regulation uniform is stocked as well as some specials from the Capezio and Bloch collection. The hours of opening are Monday – Friday 4.30 to 8.30 p.m. and all day Saturday.
Details of all regulation uniform are available from the reception or by telephone at the main studio -01242 221296.

Both children and students are prepared for examinations in the Imperial Society syllabus and although examinations are an important record of achievement and we would encourage children to enter them it is not essential that they do so.

Performance skills are encouraged and developed through our bi-annual shows and the yearly Summer Extravaganzas which demonstrate both syllabus work and showcase our achievements in local dance festivals and national events such as the Imperial Ballet Awards and the Janet Cram.

Many of our past pupils are now working in theatre or teaching in many different parts of the world.
