Why I Belong- Iris Rees
When asked to write a poem about somewhere she felt she belonged in the world, Iris decided to write a poem about her love of dancing and JMDS. We were all touched by Iris’ beautifully written poem and with her permission would like to share it with you!
Why I Belong
I see the place I belong.
The place I love.
My home away from home.
Outside the window the umbrellas dangle
They dangle down like ice crystals.
The floors are scratched like lion paws have gone over them.
I see it all right now,
My first dance on stage, the crowd cheering and whooping,
My first duet with Eliza by my side
We were eager and ready to go.
I see my mum there beside me, helping and supporting me.
I remember the feel of joy I had when I stepped into my place
The swish of ballet shoes as they sway across the floor.
It is a lovely, lively place
Full of laughter and joy.
I see it all tonight.
It’s my home away from home.
Where I belong.
